Opening Reception: 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2011
Contemporary American folk art will be the focus of the summer 2011 permanent collection exhibition at AMSET. Folk artists are primarily defined by their lack of any formal education in the arts and an almost fervent desire to create art. They are frequently provoked by some type of spiritual awakening and will create artwork with whatever materials they have on hand. Folk art is an important part of the collection at AMSET. This exhibition will give visitors a look at sculpture and paintings in a variety of artistic styles, as well as many of the artists represented in AMSET’s collection.
