As back-to-school quickly approaches, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) invites children and their families to finish their summer with an artistic flair and join in AMSET’s summer Free Family Arts Day on Saturday, August 14, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Children and their families are encouraged to explore the museum and learn about the artwork currently on display. Art activities will correlate with AMSET’s current exhibitions, DAVID CARGILL: The Lighter Side. The Lighter Side exhibition features work by Beaumont sculptor David Cargill throughout his life-long career. This exhibition has artworks that fall under the theme of laughter, love, and whimsey. Visitors will see sculptures of families, animals, and dancers in media ranging from bronze to marble.
Children and their families will create unique artwork such as Cargill’s Bet Friend, Constructive Clay, Recycled Sculptures, and Newspaper Airplanes with flying contests! These art activities help establish an understanding and connection with the many techniques used to create the art work in AMSET’s main galleries.
Throughout the day, AMSET will draw winners for backpacks full of school supplies for the new school year. Rounding out the fun will be live demonstrations by Gator Country and their reptilian friends
Complimentary cookies and punch will be provided. A concession stand selling ballpark-style food will also be available.
Admission to this event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit amset.org or call (409) 832-3432.
