Opening reception:
2-4 p.m., Sunday, August 26
Beginning August 23 through November 4, 2012, Café Arts presents Jane Peterman: Signs of Life. An artist’s reception will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, August 26.
Creating monumental nonobjective abstract paintings with techniques borrowed from printmaking, Jane Peterman employs a palette of gorgeous color. She produces her paintings directly on stretched canvas, using acrylic media, plastic sheeting, palette knives and occasionally, fingers to set a mood that carries into the surroundings with their vibrant color and spacious scale. They are based on serious consideration of women's work and the place of religion in human experience, but Peterman lightens the gravity with layers of brightly colored paint and intriguing texture. This show features paintings representing a two year span of work from shortly before a major illness through her recovery.
