The Art Museum of Southeast Texas is pleased to present Samantha Harrison: Land and Light as its Fall 2026 Community Art exhibition, on view in the Sue Mann Weisenfelder Community Gallery. 

Born and raised in Kentucky, Samantha Harrison currently lives in Southeast Texas. She studied psychology and foreign languages at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, and is a self-taught painter and photographer.

Harrison’s work is shaped by a love of travel and the natural world. Inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, Ansel Adams, and Bauhaus design, she creates work based on places both real and imagined. Harrison has road tripped, hiked, and explored remote landscapes throughout the United States, experiences that continue to influence her work. From the hills of Kentucky and the marshes and coast of Southeast Texas to the mountains, high deserts, and expansive skies of the American West, her experiences of these places continue to influence her appreciation for color, light, and place.

In both her paintings and photography, Harrison explores natural and geometric forms. Her work is inspired by natural landscapes, textiles, folk art, and the play of light and shadow. Her paintings and photographs range from subtle details of the natural world to wide-open landscapes, with an emphasis on the beauty she finds along the way.

Harrison hopes visitors will collectively share in her appreciation for the beauty she finds in both the everyday and the extraordinary, from small details to expansive views.
